Ari Seg photography

"Dreamy, cosmic, free. Only film"

That's how Ari Seg, young and promising photographer and graphic desinger, describes her photography. And those three words are exactly what comes to our mind when we look at her beautiful photographs. As we're big fans of her work we've made a little interview with her:
  1. When did you start taking photos? // ¿Cuándo empezaste a hacer fotos?  The photography world has interested me since my teenage years. I loved discovering new photographers and upload their photos on my blog. But it was not until I found the analog camera of my father, that I realized that perhaps I also could create images with some quality that other people would like.
  2. What do you want to manifest with your pictures? // ¿Qué quieres expresar con tus fotografías? It depends on the day and on my mood. But usually I try to reflect with my pictures what may be inside some girls' heads. Basically, because that's what I know better. The feminine universe has always been a theme that I've liked and where I feel very comfortable.
  3. What inspires you? // ¿Qué cosas te inspiran? Cinema, music, photographers, forests, mist, unreal universes, glitter, long hair, braids, vaporous dresses, and Sunday!
  4. What camera are you using? I've seen you only take photographs with film. What do you think of digital vs film? I use a Nikkormat and sometimes a Werlisa club color.  In the first session that I did, I used these two and one digital. When I developed the pictures, I thought that the result of analog cameras could not compare with digital. So I decided to continue experimenting with the analog and not with the digital. Right now I'm very fond of my father's Nikkormat! I'm testing different reels and objectives. It's very fun and it has taught me to value each photograph and each reel.
  5. Besides photography do you have other projects? Your Joy girls page has a lot of followers, and is a great source of inspiration for us. Thank you very much! My project right now is to not stop doing photos! I have a thousand ideas I want to try now that summer is closer and the models will not be cold! I would like to make more videos for Joy girls. I found a super8 in the same closet where I took the Nikkormat and I have to find out how well it works and start filming! And since long time ago I have in mind to make a fanzine following the aesthetics of Joy girls. So we'll see what I do first! // ¡Muchas gracias!

It's just rock and roll

"Some people have a hard time explaining rock 'n' roll. I don't think anyone can really explain rock 'n' roll. Maybe Pete Townshend, but that's okay. Rock 'n' roll is a lifestyle and a way of thinking... and it's not about money and popularity. Although, some money would be nice. But it's a voice that says, "Here I am... and fuck you if you can't understand me." And one of these people is gonna save the world. And that means that rock 'n' roll can save the world... all of us together. And the chicks are great. But what it all comes down to is that thing. The indefinable thing when people catch something in your music." (Almost Famous)

That's a funny quote on rock 'n' roll from the film 'Almost Famous' one of our favorite films ever. The truth is that I like that film so much because it's a beautiful tribute to that era, and I am a big fan of the music (best music ever), clothes, and lifestyle from the late 60s and early 70s, and the outrageous and amazing Glam Rock. My mother was a teenager during that time, and she passed on to me all her knowledge and experiences (she lived in London and New York for a while on the late 70s, and she met a lot of people who directly lived those glorious rock years) and all her vinyls, that I've grown up listening to. Here are some songs from that time that have become my favorites through the years:

Also, I want to share with you my friend's Emilie lovely blog, called Hola Bola Babes, because she's a fan of the 70s too, and she's done a wonderful post talking about its fashion, how it's influencing nowadays style and catwalk, and also it's influence on films like 'Flashbacks of a Fool', which soundtrack features one of our favorite songs, 'If There Is Something' by Roxy Music. You can visit it by clicking the image:

Hope you've enjoyed this 70s flashback!
